2023 Harry Elkes Recap

The 10th annual Harry Elkes Ride held on September 09, 2023, at The Hub in Brant Lake was a resounding success hosting 102 riders. The night before there was heavy rain threatening the ride. Fortunately, the rain stopped, and the day was perfect for biking. The riders were treated to coffee and donuts. Bottled water was available to riders as well.

The riders were broken up as follows:

RouteDistance (miles)Number of Participants
Schroon – Brant Lakes Loop5034
Three Lakes3238
Schroon River- Bean Road Gravel Loop184
Palisades Road1521

Approximately thirty riders had a free bell installed on their bicycle as NY law requires. Adirondack Cycling Advocate provided the bells as they are encouraging the use of bells especially on the Warren County Bikeway. A pamphlet on bicycle bell etiquette for cyclists, walkers and joggers was distributed (link). Eric Lendum was present from Rick’s Bicycle Shop to service and adjust bikes prior to riding. Rick’s donated water bottles and two helmets to very appreciative riders in need.

Several cycling groups participated, including Saratoga Cycling, Croghan, Adirondack Multisport, ATP Racing, and Adirondack Runners. In addition to New York, there were riders from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Florida.

After the ride, many cyclists had lunch and beverages at The Hub.
