The Adirondack Cycling Advocates is excited to announce that the $2,500.00 Lloyd Mott Cycling Scholarship was awarded to Teagan Wright from Greenwich High School. The scholarship was based on a written essay focusing on cycling safety and an idea or project that could be developed to ensure the safety of cyclists. Teagan will be attending the South Dakota School of Mines this fall. Teagan stated in her application essay, “A rite of passage for many is learning to ride a bike. But, along with this freedom and fun that comes with mastering life on two wheels is the importance of understanding cycling’s dangers and taking responsibility for one’s safety.” In her essay, she recommends improving safety of cycling through education and a community-based event such as a bicycle rodeo where youths gather together to learn about bicycle safety and to practice safe riding skills. She ended her essay saying, “Being prepared and taking essential steps to arm oneself with safe riding practices allows one to embrace the lifelong sport of cycling.” Congratulations Teagan!
