Follow this link https://albanybicyclecoalition.com/2020/07/04/south-end-connector-bikeway-construction-almost-done/ to see the finishing phase of the South End Connector Bikeway construction. While there are still some final touches, the photos and text highlight all that has been accomplished in the past 7 years to bring the Connector to fruition.
In 2013, the Albany Bicycle Coalition joined with the Revitalize Our Waterfront group to plan, promote, and design a connection between the then soon-to-be-completed Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail and the long-established Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail. We recognized that the 1.5-mile gap with heavy urban traffic on S. Pearl St. would be a barrier to experienced riders but even more so for recreational or novice cyclists and neighborhood residents. ABC and ROW conducted rides of the proposed trail, attended innumerable meetings, posted project updates, conferred with neighbors, gathered support from residents and others, and submitted proposals for route design.
Now, thanks to Mayor Sheehan and the City of Albany Planning office, the Connector is “open for business.”
The Albany Bicycle Coalition will continue to monitor progress and to add to our comments already submitted to the city on changes we want to be considered. We invite visitors to the Connector to submit their observations and concerns.

From our Chairman for WCSQBO:
“Interesting article on the Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail and the connector to Mohawk Hudson Bike Trail. My wife and I biked the Helderberg Trail a few weeks ago. It is about 9 miles long and quite nice.”
I thought it worth sharing. . .
