Adirondack Cycling Advocates hosted E-Bikes in our Community:
An Insight on E-bike Safety and Laws at the Queensbury Hotel on 29 April 2026 to increase community awareness of the safety components of e-bikes, the local and NYS e-bike laws, and to ensure we have the best environment for e-bike use in our community.
Anne Savage, Executive Director of NYBC, framed the discussion by providing an overview of NYS e-bike laws. Andy Dietz, a Territory Manager for Trek, then outlined the components of e-bikes that affect safety and the importance of ensuring the e-bike is UL 2849 (the premier safety standard for e-bikes) compliant. Ed Brennan, President of the Albany Bicycle Coalition, followed with information on the current NYS and local e-bike laws. (Mr. Brennan spent the morning training 18 law enforcement officers from Warren County, Washington County, and the city of Glens Falls on e-bike and e-scooter laws.) Ms. Savage concluded the meeting with a discussion on possible directions NYS might take with future e-bike laws.
The approximately 80 attendees included local business owners, city and county officials, cycling advocates, Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council representatives, and some local law enforcement officers, as well as many interested community members.
